Germany Trip Part 1

Germany Trip Part 1
The three of us are now in our fourth year of motorhome apprenticeship. We've already been fortunate enough to experience many trips together.
Who are we?
Lisa : is our dog, almost 8 years old.
Sigi : is my dream life partner. I can go through thick and thin with her.
Martin : That's me, and I'm trying to tell you a bit about my 7-week trip.
The motorhome, 696 cm long, is equipped with a solar system consisting of three 120-watt panels and a 2000-watt inverter. The refrigerator runs on gas when stationary.

Our route took us up to the right through the Fichtel Mountains towards the Baltic Sea, across to the North Sea and back via the Moselle, Rhine and Bavaria.
What is it about?
Brief description of the landscapes and campsites.
For details about the campsites, explore their own websites.
When awarding stars, I'm not concerned with pure luxury, but rather with how comfortable one feels, the price-performance ratio, and the orderliness.
Our destination was Weissenstadt in the Fichte Mountains, about 500 km away and a good 5-hour drive. The journey, mostly on the motorway, was very quiet, allowing us to enjoy the trip. Weissenstadt is the ancestral home of Sigi's family, which is why we chose it as our destination.
Weissenstadt (630 m) is located in Upper Franconia and is beautifully nestled in the Fichtel Mountains. On July 21, 2025, the town was officially designated a "spa town." The town, with its reservoir, became known primarily for the natural remedy of radon and, in earlier times, for its granite quarrying. The roofs of the houses, covered with local slate, are a striking feature.
Those seeking peace and quiet while hiking, relaxing or cycling will find excellent options here.

We received a warm welcome at the " Camping am Weissenstädter See " campsite. The campsite is nestled between a fish farm pond and the lake. It offers everything you need for camping. The on-site restaurant is highly recommended, and there are also shops nearby.

Three nights later we continued on (350 km) to Schwerin. In Brandenburg. The stopover was to visit Sigi's cousin. We were allowed to camp for two nights at the farmer's next door, for which we are very grateful. Some of the streets still bear the marks of the old days with their cobblestones. High heels are not recommended. However, the many new, well-maintained houses along Seestrasse are quite striking. Something else I'd like to mention: if you're in Schwerin, the Italian restaurant is a must-visit. In addition to the absolutely excellent food, we were able to order without having any cash on us. Since card payments are often not possible in Germany due to the poor network coverage, the owner gave me her IBAN number, and I was able to authorize the payment that way. She offered this service before we even placed our order. Thank you for your trust and hospitality!
Dear Andreas, I had a wonderful time with you!
Therefore, 5 stars

After two warm nights, we set off on the next 340 km journey. Our destination: Camping Pommernland in Zinnowitz on the Baltic Sea. After a pleasant three-hour drive, we arrived and received a very warm welcome. We were eager to explore Zinnowitz . We started out on foot and were immediately captivated by the entire region. The area is characterized by extensive coastal dunes stretching west to Trassenheide and east to Zempin. Everything looked newly built; the houses and numerous cycle paths were clean and well-maintained. The variety of buildings is striking in the region. Zinnowitz is a well-known fishing area, so fish was our main focus on the menu. Zinnowitz offers plenty of opportunities for relaxation: beautifully landscaped parks along the seafront, numerous wide cycle paths, and countless cafes, restaurants, and more. We also had no negative experiences eating out with our dog.

Pommernland campsite is beautifully situated in the woods. The forest offers peace and quiet, the chirping of birds, and the trees provide welcome shade from the heat. Unfortunately, from that day on, we were denied the summer warmth. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the place and spent some lovely hours at the campsite. The campsite offers everything you need for camping. The various washing facilities, etc., were always clean. The only slight drawback was the Wi-Fi. However, this is a common problem at German campsites, so it's worth having the right subscription.

After three nights, we continued our journey to Waren (Müritz), 130 km away . Our destination was the Kamerun campsite on the Binnen-Müritzersee (Inner Lake Müritz). This beautiful town boasts a history dating back to the 13th century. Waren (Müritz) originated as a Waren originated as a Slavic settlement. The town recovered only slowly from the numerous fires and epidemics it suffered. Waren lies on the shores of Lake Müritz, the largest lake entirely within Germany. Today, it's a must-see town, a vibrant place with many small pubs and restaurants. The old town, with its many historical buildings, is also worth seeing. Waren (Müritz) is well-connected with extensive cycle paths. The harbor features a fish market, and boat trips are available.

There's even a large agility course for dogs, and a large meadow where you can run and play freely with your canine companion. A lovely dog beach is also nearby. The on-site restaurant is highly recommended for its pleasant atmosphere and excellent German cuisine.

Three nights later, the journey continued with a two-hour, 130-kilometer drive to the island of Rügen and the Sund Camp Altefähr campsite. Our goal was to visit the magnificent city of Stralsund , located opposite the island. We took the ferry from the island, which made for an interesting ride. Stralsund's rich history stretches back several centuries. Thanks to its long-standing status as a fortress, the city survived many wars. The vibrant old town is characterized by its distinctive brick architecture. It's simply amazing how such large buildings were constructed from relatively small bricks and still look brand new today. Many of Stralsund's street names reflect historical events. Due to its historical and architectural significance, the old town has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. And of course, the Ozeaneum, with its various marine exhibits, is a must-see. A visit to this underwater world is an absolute must.

Sund -Camp-Altefähr is wonderfully situated next to the nature park. The large beach, perfect for all kinds of games and fun, is just a five- to ten-minute walk away. The park area is very manageable in size, making it ideal for families with children and/or dogs. The beach, suitable for both people and animals, is also very close by. The view across to the old town of Stralsund is unforgettable. The campsite is modern and offers everything you need. Dogs are welcome and have plenty of space to run around outside the campsite. The bus and ferry stop are conveniently located near the campsite.

After a few wonderful days, we continued on to Sellin-Göhren and the Regenbogen Göhren campsite. Our first stop was Jasmund National Park . The park could only be reached by a long hike or by bus (muzzles were mandatory for dogs). The dog training school we'd attended before the trip proved invaluable. We then visited the relatively new and impressive Skywalk above the Königsstuhl (King's Chair). This 60-meter-long viewing platform weighs 400 tons. My opinion is that the entrance fee is quite high considering the natural scenery it offers.
The town of Sellin was first mentioned in 1295 as "Zelinische Beke" First documented in the 16th century, the region even belonged to Swedish Pomerania. The village of Sellin has been known as an exceptional seaside resort since 1880. Entertainment such as bowling alleys and a cinema was offered there very early on. Last but not least, Sellin is also widely known for its newly restored pier. Since 1998, the 394-meter-long pier, made of 1,000 tons of steel, has gleamed in its white splendor. The pier is accessible by stairs, road, or a lift for people with mobility impairments.

But we mustn't forget the " Rasender Roland " (Racing Roland). This narrow-gauge railway has been running on Germany's largest island since 1895. The steam-powered train runs daily on its 750 mm gauge track from Putbus to Göhren.

We were incredibly surprised when we checked in at the Regenbogen campsite in Göhren . Upon entering the check-in area, it felt like stepping into a 5-star hotel. I'd never seen anything like it before, and I thought, wow, what amazing things await us here! The price itself was also extremely high by German standards. The campsite is nestled in a beautiful forest and is also located close to the sea.
Unfortunately, it's not easy to bring dogs to this region. Places to play or swim are quite far away. However, for families with children, it's a well-equipped campsite with plenty of options. What has unfortunately become excessive for serious campers are the numerous prefabricated cabins, which almost resemble a village and tend to attract partygoers. Consequently, it's noticeable that the area around the cabins is better maintained than the actual pitches.

Conclusion for the Göhren-Sellin region:
Perfect for cycling and hiking along the coast. A ride on the "Rasender Roland" (a historic steam train) is a thrilling experience, and the pier in Sellin is impressive. The entire region is very well-developed and beautiful for pedestrians and cyclists, making it a truly enjoyable place to explore.
Highly recommended and therefore 5 stars
Conclusion about Camping Regenbogen Göhren:
The campsite is very large and offers everything you'd expect for the price. However, in my opinion, the pitches are run-down, the showers shut off after three minutes, and you have to patiently wait another three minutes for the water to come back on. The restaurant and snack bar didn't seem to be consistently satisfying customers. Depending on your needs, you might have to walk quite a distance to sort your rubbish, as the collection point is located outside the campsite. The only positive thing we found was the helpful saleswoman in the shop. For this high price, there's no guided tour of the campsite, so you'll have to search for it yourself. It's more suitable for parties and families without dogs. Speaking of dogs, considering the price for dog parking, we found the dog shower to be the same dirty place every day.
Many disappointments and too expensive, therefore 3 stars
After those eventful days, we continued on to Eckernförde. The drive was relatively monotonous and, at 375 km, took 4.5 hours. Our original plan was to visit relatives, but unfortunately, they were seriously ill. Since the trip was already booked everywhere, we decided to take some time to relax. This turned out to be the best thing we did at the cozy Hemmelmark campsite . It's a secluded spot, so you can really find peace and quiet. The campsite is superbly equipped, which wasn't immediately obvious. Everything is well-organized and, above all, spacious. It's fantastic for children and dogs. The sea is just a few steps away. The on-site restaurant, Ostsee Oase, has also been highly recommended since the new management took over. I can especially recommend the fish, which is served with excellent service. From beginning to end, we felt completely at ease at the campsite. I apologize to the owners for not taking any better pictures because I was so lazy.
